Rainfall estimates from opportunistic sensors in Germany across spatio-temporal scales

Study region: The study region is Germany and two sub-regions in Germany, i.e. the state of Rhineland-Palatinate city Reutlingen. focus: Opportunistic rainfall sensors, namely personal weather stations commercial microwave links, together with rain gauge data from German Weather Service, were used different combinations to derive maps a geostatistical interpolation framework for Germany. This kriging type considered uncertainty opportunistic sensors line structure links. resulting compared gauge-adjusted radar products evaluated three reference datasets respective regions on both daily hourly basis. New Hydrological Insights Region: interpolated provided good agreement gauges. dataset including information performed best. addition gauges Service did not consistently lead an improvement maps. On country-wide, scale well, but closer reference. For regional local Reutlingen resolution, outperformed product DWD showed similar as products.
